Rockwood’s Puppy Camp

Rockwood’s Puppy Camp is for youngster’s ages 4 months to 7months. During their stay here they will be properly introduced to birds, gunfire, water and different terrains. This is the foundation that we will build upon for the rest of the dogs training. Many times I see dogs that need professional help only because the owners didn’t properly introduce the pup to birds, guns, and water. A gun shy dog is useless in the field. A dog that is not bird crazy is not going to get the job done either. A young dog that swims is a more confident dog. So it is very important that these objectives are met. At this young age is when the pups are going to learn,  and like a sponge, absorb the things we teach them. I have heard it many times, “it worked with my last dog”! Every dog is different, even within breeds and litters. It takes experience to see what a pup needs and how we are going to go about it. I have many ways to do things. The method I choose is tailor made for your pup.
When the pup is finished with camp, it will be a young dog that you can take hunting. He/She may not be a polished hunting dog but you will be able to take the pup out hunting and expose it to all your favorite haunts.
I also spend time with the owner to help them get the most out of their new prospect. I also try and cover the “do not do's” for the owner. After the pup has been through camp I will have a training program in mind for the pup and the owner can either have me do the work when it is time or they can do it themselves with my help. Either way your dog is going to benefit from this program, and have a training roadmap to get to the level of your choice.

Remember, it is a lot cheaper to train a dog that is not messed up, than it is to train a dog that has issues that could have been prevented. It is like preventive maintenance for dogs.

The pups will get plenty of play time and socialization with people and other dogs. Most pups do not want to leave, and when they come back they can’t get out of the vehicle fast enough. I love to watch a young pup's light come on. It is very rewarding for me to see, but the pup is the real winner here.
